California men’s soccer forward Luka Lukic has been named the ACC Offensive Player of the Week, following his performance in the first two games of the season. The announcement was made by the conference on Tuesday.
Lukic, a graduate student transfer from UC Riverside, scored three goals in his first two matches as a Golden Bear. He leads California in goals, points, and shots, and is tied for most game-winning goals on the team.
One of Lukic’s goals secured Cal’s 1-0 win over UCLA on Sunday. He headed in the deciding goal in the final minute of play. Earlier in the week, he scored twice against Saint Mary’s—once from a corner kick delivered by Kieran Bracken Serra and once from a penalty kick—to help Cal to a 3-2 victory.
The Bears are now 2-0 after wins over both UCLA and Saint Mary’s. Cam Wilkerson scored the game-winning goal against Saint Mary’s after Lukic’s brace had given Cal an advantage.
Cal will play its next two matches at home at Edwards Stadium: against San Francisco on Thursday at 4 p.m. PT and UC San Diego on Sunday at 4 p.m. PT.
