The University of San Diego men’s golf team completed the first two rounds of the 2026 West Coast Conference Tournament on May 2 at Green Valley Country Club, north of the Bay Area. Through 36 holes, the Toreros are in second place overall, highlighted by a strong performance in the second round.
The tournament features three rounds of stroke play before moving to match play for semifinals and finals. This structure determines which teams advance to compete for the conference championship.
San Diego began its opening round on the back nine and finished with a team score of two-under par, tying for fourth place with San Francisco. Key performances included Reid Piron’s steady start and You Seong Choi’s even-par round that featured an eagle on the par-5 sixteenth hole. Cooper Humphreys and Reed Arnaldo both contributed scores near par despite challenges during their rounds. Ian Maspat led individually for San Diego after finishing his first round at three-under par.
In the afternoon’s second round, San Diego recorded its best team effort of the day with a twelve-under-par total, bringing them to fourteen-under overall—just two strokes behind Pepperdine heading into Saturday’s third round. Maspat shot a seven-under sixty-four in his second round to reach ten-under for the tournament and take a four-shot lead individually. “His round was stamped with USD’s second eagle of the day on the third hole,” according to university reports from Friday’s action.
Arnaldo also posted an impressive five-under-par performance in his second round, moving him into ninth place overall heading into Saturday. Choi improved as well, carding a three-under sixty-nine to sit at two under through thirty-six holes.
Play will continue Saturday with hopes that San Diego remains among the top four teams to advance to Sunday’s semifinals and championship matches using match play format. The team’s players will compete head-to-head Sunday if they qualify.
