A man from Mexico living in Anaheim was sentenced to 23 years in federal prison for crimes involving the sexual abuse of a minor and the production, distribution, and possession of child sexual abuse material. United States District Judge David O. Carter issued the sentence to Jonathan Gonzalez-Reyes, 39, and ordered him to pay $3,000 in restitution to the victim.

According to court documents and evidence presented at trial, Gonzalez-Reyes and co-defendant Nanci Jasmin Castillo befriended a 13-year-old girl in February 2021. The victim was identified as “Minor Victim 1.” At Castillo’s home, she gave the victim an alcoholic beverage after the victim had taken Xanax anti-anxiety medication. While the victim was going in and out of consciousness, both Castillo and Gonzalez-Reyes sexually assaulted her. They also photographed and recorded videos of the assault.

Law enforcement searched Gonzalez-Reyes’ phone and Castillo’s iCloud account, discovering images and videos depicting child sexual abuse involving both defendants and the minor. Investigators also found that Gonzalez-Reyes sent copies of this material to Castillo.

In September 2021, Gonzalez-Reyes knowingly possessed and distributed images showing the same minor engaged in sexually explicit conduct.

Gonzalez-Reyes has been held in federal custody since June 2024. On April 30, following a three-day trial, a federal jury found him guilty on one count of production of child pornography, two counts of distribution of child pornography, and one count of possession of child pornography.

Castillo pleaded guilty on February 5 to one count of production of child pornography. She has also been held since June 2024. On July 28, Judge Carter sentenced her to 20 years in federal prison with an order for $3,000 restitution.
