The National Federation of Independent Business California released its Main Street Minute update for March 9-13, outlining legislative priorities and upcoming events for small business owners in the state.
The update is significant as it provides small business owners with information on key legislative developments, advocacy opportunities, and regulatory updates that may affect their operations. This week, NFIB California highlighted that policy committees in the Legislature are setting agendas to address new bills and carryover measures from last year. The group is monitoring 53 bills—supporting 19, opposing 21, and watching 13 others. Members are encouraged to take action on Assembly Bill 1900 regarding state control over health-care decisions and Assembly Bill 2646 concerning minimum wage increases. NFIB California represents more than 35,000 small business owners, according to its official website.
A member meeting is scheduled for March 25 in Los Osos, where State Director John Kabateck will provide updates on legislative issues and hear concerns from local business owners. Kabateck will also participate in a roundtable with the California District Attorneys Association about Proposition 36 funding and implementation before addressing economic trends at an event organized by the Sacramento Business Journal later that day.
Regulatory matters discussed include a recent decision by the California Privacy Protection Agency requiring PlayOn Sports to pay a $1.1 million fine related to student privacy violations—the first such decision involving students and schools in California. Other updates include an upcoming Department of Managed Health Care meeting on premium rates and prescription drug costs.
NFIB California advocates for small business interests through legislative engagement and provides resources to promote their success, according to its official website. The organization works to protect small businesses from excessive regulations and taxes while pushing for supportive policies.
