U.S. Representative Norma Torres, who serves California’s 35th district, posted a series of statements on her official Twitter account addressing recent law enforcement actions in her district, legislative activities in Washington, D.C., and criticism of congressional leadership.
On July 21, 2025, Torres wrote: “BREAKING: ICE claims someone assaulted an agent then ran into a Stater Bros in my district. An older woman was reportedly taken for ‘assault.’ An American citizen man was also caught up in the chaos. I’m demanding answers. Get a warrant or get OUT!” This tweet referred to an incident involving Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents at a grocery store within her constituency.
Later that day, Torres shared another update regarding her work on emergency communications: “Today, @RepKatCammack and I visited DC’s Office of Unified Communications to meet public safety telecommunicators and launch the NextGen 911 Caucus for the 119th Congress. As co-chair and former 911 dispatcher, I’m proud to advance modern, reliable emergency systems that”. In this post, she highlighted her efforts to improve emergency response infrastructure alongside Rep. Kat Cammack.
On July 22, Torres addressed ongoing political disputes in Congress: “I’m in DC to fight for Californians. I’m here to lower costs, improve public safety, and deliver results. Meanwhile, Republicans are shutting down Congress to avoid a vote on the Epstein files. That’s not leadership. It’s cowardice. Who are they really representing?”
Norma Torres has represented California’s 35th District since 2015 after succeeding Gloria Negrete McLeod and previously served in both the California State Assembly and Senate from 2008 through 2014. Born in Escuintla, Guatemala in 1965 and now residing in Pomona at age 58, Torres holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from National Labor College.
