Rep. Norma Torres, a U.S. Congresswoman representing California’s 35th district, recently used her social media platform to address issues ranging from immigration enforcement in schools to support for individuals with autism and intellectual or developmental disabilities.
On December 9, 2025, Torres commented on the impact of immigration enforcement activities on students and their learning environments. She stated, “ICE raids are terrorizing our students and sabotaging their education. Schools are seeing more bullying, lower attendance, and a real ‘climate of distress’ because kids are living in fear of deportation or harassment. This is no way for children to learn. Every child has a right”.
The following day, December 10, 2025, Torres announced new legislative efforts aimed at supporting communication between first responders and people with autism or intellectual/developmental disabilities (I/DD). She wrote, “Today, I introduced the bipartisan Supporting Blue Envelope Programs Act with @RepRutherfordFL. Blue Envelope Programs work, in the Inland Empire and in 29 states nationwide, helping first responders communicate safely with people with Autism & I/DD. I’m excited to lead this”.
Later that same day, Torres posted a brief remark about an unspecified individual: “He’s so unwell, I’m honestly surprised it didn’t end with ‘please respond.’”
Torres has represented California’s 35th district since replacing Gloria Negrete McLeod in 2015. Before her tenure in Congress, she served in both the California State Assembly (2008-2013) and Senate (2013-2014). Born in Escuintla, Guatemala in 1965 and currently residing in Pomona at age 58, Torres holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from National Labor College.
