Rep. Norma Torres, U.S. Congresswoman representing California’s 35th district, addressed a series of topics in her recent posts on social media between August 27 and August 29, 2025.
On August 27, Torres expressed condolences to a local community impacted by tragedy, writing, “My heart breaks for the Annunciation Catholic School community. Two children taken far too soon, and many are injured. My thoughts and prayers are with the families, classmates, and loved ones grieving this unthinkable tragedy.”
Two days later, on August 29, Torres shared her participation in a commemorative event in Chino: “I was honored to join the American Flying Tigers Foundation and the Yanks Air Museum in Chino to mark the 80th Anniversary of the Flying Tigers. These brave American pilots risked everything to defend China before the U.S. entered WWII. Their courage and sacrifice will never be”.
Later that same day, Torres highlighted legislative action regarding security protections for Vice Presidents: “No President should be able to revoke the Vice President’s security. I introduced a bill to make this protection permanent, guaranteed for every VP no matter the politics, and essential for the safety of our leaders and our democracy.”
Torres has represented California’s 35th district since succeeding Gloria Negrete McLeod in 2015. She previously served in both chambers of California’s state legislature—first as an Assembly member from 2008 to 2013 and then as a State Senator from 2013 to 2014. Born in Escuintla, Guatemala in 1965 and currently residing in Pomona at age 58, Torres holds a BA from National Labor College.
