Rep. Norma Torres, a U.S. Congress member representing California’s 35th district, shared insights on recent events and legislative initiatives through her social media platform.
On June 12, 2025, Rep. Torres extended her congratulations to the Upland community for their successful Summer Reading Kickoff at the Upland Public Library. She expressed gratitude to the Friends of the Upland Library for organizing an inspiring event aimed at promoting literacy among families. “Congratulations to the Upland community on a successful Summer Reading Kickoff at the Upland Public Library! Grateful to the Friends of the Upland Library for organizing such a fun, inspiring event for families. Your work to promote literacy is making a real difference.”
Later that day, Rep. Torres addressed parental concerns regarding infant formula safety by announcing an amendment she introduced. This measure aims to protect FDA public servants responsible for inspecting and ensuring the safety of infant formula, amid reports that former President Trump and DOGE had dismissed key staff members in this area. “Parents deserve peace of mind when it comes to feeding their babies. That’s why I introduced an amendment to protect the FDA public servants who inspect and ensure the safety of infant formula.”
In another post from June 12, Rep. Torres commented on what she described as an abuse of power involving Senator Alex Padilla being forcibly removed after questioning Secretary Noem. She characterized this incident as an attempt to silence dissent rather than ensuring public safety. “Let’s call it what it is: a disgraceful abuse of power. Senator Alex Padilla was dragged and handcuffed out for daring to question Secretary Noem.”
Rep. Norma Torres has been serving in Congress since replacing Gloria Negrete McLeod in 2015 and previously held positions in both California State Assembly and Senate.
