U.S. Representative Norma Torres, who serves California’s 35th district, posted a series of messages on January 14, 2026, addressing local business developments and legislative concerns about insider trading rules for members of Congress.

In her first post, Torres wrote: “Congratulations to S Rank Games on the grand opening of your board and card game shop in Ontario! Excited to welcome a new #CA35 small business that brings players, collectors, and the community together.” (January 14, 2026).

Later the same day, Torres commented on current legislation related to Congressional stock trading. She stated: “The Stop Insider Trading Act claims to ban stock trading, but it leaves the biggest loopholes wide open. Members can keep their stocks, reinvest dividends, and profit from the laws they pass. My amendment closes the reinvestment loophole. No more cashing in while working” (January 14, 2026).

She reiterated her position in a subsequent message: “This is exactly what the STOP Insider Trading Act would still allow. Members and their families can keep stocks, reinvest dividends, and profit off government decisions. That’s not a ban, it’s a loophole.” (January 14, 2026).

Torres has represented California’s 35th District in Congress since replacing Gloria Negrete McLeod in 2015. Before her tenure in Congress, she served in both the California State Assembly from 2008 to 2013 and the California Senate from 2013 to 2014. Born in Escuintla, Guatemala in 1965 and currently residing in Pomona at age 58, Torres holds a BA from National Labor College.
