Rep. Norma Torres, who represents California’s 35th district in the U.S. Congress, recently addressed several national and community issues through her social media posts. The tweets ranged from criticism of recent military actions to commemorations of cultural traditions and reflections on the anniversary of the January 6 Capitol riot.
On January 3, 2026, Torres commented on recent U.S. military action by stating, “The President’s overnight strikes on Venezuela are illegal, reckless, and endanger Americans. Congress alone has the power to declare war, yet Republican leaders refuse to act, letting Trump’s ego override the Constitution. This is another deadly distraction from his”.
Three days later, on January 6, she posted a message celebrating Three Kings Day: “Feliz DÃa de los Tres Reyes Magos! Today we celebrate a tradition that brings families together, centers our children, and reminds us of the power of hope, faith, and generosity. Wishing everyone in our communities a joyful Three Kings Day filled with love and light.”
That same day marked five years since the storming of the U.S. Capitol. Torres wrote: “Five years after Donald Trump incited a violent mob to storm the Capitol, House Democrats are holding a hearing to put the truth on the record. Accountability matters, and our democracy depends on it.”
Torres has served as a member of Congress since 2015 after succeeding Gloria Negrete McLeod. Before her tenure in Congress, she served in both chambers of California’s state legislature between 2008 and 2014. Born in Escuintla, Guatemala in 1965 and currently residing in Pomona at age 58, Torres holds a Bachelor’s degree from National Labor College.
