Rep. Norma Torres, currently serving in the U.S. Congress representing California’s 35th district, shared several updates on social media reflecting her ongoing engagement with civic and legislative matters.
On June 5, 2025, Rep. Torres celebrated Pomona’s 2024–2025 Youth & Government students. She commended these young individuals for enhancing their public speaking, research, and civic engagement skills over a period of ten months. She expressed pride in their achievements and noted the importance of building a strong foundation for future public service roles.
In another post on the same day, Rep. Torres reflected on the passage of the #19thAmendment by Congress in 1919, which secured women’s right to vote “on paper.” However, she emphasized that the fight for voting rights continues as they face new challenges today. Torres highlighted the importance of defending voting rights as a way to honor the legacy of suffragists.
Later that day, Rep. Torres called for accountability from FAA leadership following a series of close calls and system failures within the agency. She stressed the need for an FAA that is fully staffed and properly supported to maintain its core mission of ensuring public safety in aviation, particularly at high-traffic airports.
Rep. Norma Torres has been serving in Congress since 2015 after succeeding Gloria Negrete McLeod. Before her tenure in Congress, she served in both the California State Assembly and Senate.
