Rep. Norma Torres, who has served in the U.S. Congress representing California’s 35th District since 2015, recently shared her thoughts and actions on various issues through a series of tweets. These posts reflect her engagement with community concerns and legislative efforts.
On July 7, 2025, Rep. Torres expressed sympathy for families affected by flash floods in Central Texas. She stated, “My heart is with the families in Central Texas facing unimaginable loss from the flash floods. As a parent, I can’t begin to imagine the pain of waiting for news about a loved one.” She also extended gratitude to first responders involved in rescue operations.
Later that day, Torres highlighted a legislative success involving an amendment she introduced regarding rape-kit access for civilian personnel overseas. In her tweet, she mentioned that following this introduction, “the Department of Defense reversed its policy.” She emphasized this outcome as “the power of oversight—and a clear win for justice and accountability.”
On July 9, 2025, Torres addressed an issue affecting her district due to ICE raids causing fear among community members. She tweeted about Bishop Rojas’s decision to lift Sunday Mass obligations because “ICE raids are making families too afraid to go to church.” This situation is significant as his Diocese covers most of her district. Torres remarked on the difficult choice faced by individuals between practicing their faith and ensuring personal safety.
Norma Torres has had a longstanding career in public service, having served previously in both the California State Assembly and Senate before joining Congress.
