Rep. Norma Torres, who has represented California’s 35th District in the U.S. Congress since 2015, addressed a range of local and national issues in recent social media posts. Her tweets covered concerns about federal immigration enforcement practices, infrastructure investments in her district, and calls for transparency at an immigration detention facility.
On July 10, 2025, Rep. Torres raised concerns regarding the conduct of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents in her district. She stated: “ICE agents forcibly removed a man from a private hospital room in my district. Is this what we have come to? Will the next step be ripping out a patient’s IVs and dragging them away under the false pretense of an “enforcement operation”? The Department of Homeland Security is”.
Later that day, she announced funding secured for local infrastructure improvements at Chino Airport: “Big win for #ChinoAirport! I helped secure over $1 million in federal funds to upgrade taxiways, boost safety, and keep our airport running smoothly. Proud to deliver for #CA35 and invest in our region’s infrastructure. “.
On July 11, 2025, Rep. Torres discussed her efforts alongside Rep. Raul Ruiz to obtain information about policies at the Adelanto ICE Processing Center: “I’m joining @RepRaulRuizMD at the Adelanto ICE Processing Center to demand transparency. Last month, DHS denied him entry despite following the standard 72-hour rule. Now they’ve quietly changed it to 7 days. Our communities deserve answers.”
Norma Torres was born in Escuintla, Guatemala in 1965 and currently resides in Pomona. She holds a BA from National Labor College and previously served both in the California State Assembly (2008–2013) and Senate (2013–2014) before succeeding Gloria Negrete McLeod as representative for California’s 35th District.
