Rep. Norma Torres, who has been serving in the U.S. Congress representing California’s 35th district since 2015, recently shared a series of tweets addressing community events and pressing political issues.
On June 8, 2025, Rep. Torres expressed her gratitude to the Chamber of Commerce for organizing the 27th Annual Lemon Festival in Downtown Upland. She highlighted the event as a celebration of community spirit and joy, stating “#TeamTorres had an amazing time at the Kickoff Celebration for the 27th Annual Lemon Festival.”
Later that day, she addressed concerns regarding federal actions involving California’s National Guard. In a tweet dated June 8, 2025, she stated “They yell ‘invasion’ at the border—but this is the real one: Trump is seizing control of California’s National Guard and forcing 2,000 troops into our streets.” She emphasized adherence to constitutional law over individual directives by adding “Every official swears an oath to protect and uphold the Constitution… we follow the law, not Trump’s.”
In another tweet on June 9, 2025, Rep. Torres commented on what she perceives as authoritarian behavior from national leadership. She criticized a call for action against a sitting Governor as a threat to democracy. Her statement read “The President just called for the arrest of a sitting Governor… It’s authoritarianism — a direct threat to our nation.” She urged all Americans to remain vigilant against such threats.
Rep. Torres was born in Escuintla, Guatemala in 1965 and currently resides in Pomona. Her academic background includes a Bachelor of Arts degree from National Labor College.
