Rep. Norma Torres, U.S. Congresswoman representing California’s 35th district, addressed several issues on July 30, 2025, through her official Twitter account, including military recognition, education funding, and immigration policy.
On July 30, 2025, Torres shared an update regarding a constituent’s long-overdue military honor: “Honored to present the Army Good Conduct Medal to Mr. Michael Resendez, who served with distinction in the 82nd Airborne Division from 1984–87. Due to an administrative oversight, the medal was never issued. After he reached out to our office, we worked with the Army to ensure” (posted at 01:14 UTC).
Later that day at 01:30 UTC, Torres commented on school funding in California: “$800 million in school funding is finally unfrozen — because we fought back. Trump tried to block critical support for English learners, migrant students, and after-school programs. But we pushed back — and we won. Now, California schools can move forward.”
In another post made at 13:40 UTC on July 30, Torres criticized former President Donald Trump’s administration over its stance on DACA recipients: “The Trump Administration’s call for DACA recipients to self-deport is a deliberate misrepresentation of the law. Dreamers are protected under DACA, and any attempt to target them outside the bounds of the law will be met with oversight and accountability. #DefendDACA”
Norma Torres has represented California’s 35th District in Congress since replacing Gloria Negrete McLeod in 2015 and previously served in both the California State Assembly and Senate ([source](https://bioguide.congress.gov/search/bio/T000474)). Born in Escuintla, Guatemala in 1965 and currently residing in Pomona at age 58, Torres holds a BA from National Labor College.
