Rep. Norma Torres, U.S. Congresswoman representing California’s 35th district since 2015, posted a series of messages on her official X account between May 9 and May 11, 2026, addressing local student initiatives, Mother’s Day, and concerns about voter intimidation.
On May 9, Torres highlighted the efforts of students at San Antonio High School who created a support center for younger children in need. She wrote: “I’m inspired by the leadership and compassion shown by the seniors at San Antonio High School! These students designed, fundraised, and built a “Kindness Den” at Sumner Elementary School to provide hygiene products, school supplies, and food to students in need. Our future is https://t.co/DiL7w5Zkz9”.
Two days later, on May 11, Torres marked Mother’s Day with a message directed toward women and mother figures in her district. She stated: “Happy Mother’s Day to all the moms, abuelas, tias, and mother figures across #CA35. Thank you for all the love, care, and sacrifices you give your families every day. I hope you feel celebrated today. https://t.co/NVnGL3pq2F”.
Later that same day, Torres addressed recent comments from an unnamed president regarding election oversight measures. She posted: “The only thing ‘unhinged’ here is a President calling for a private ‘army’ to hover over legal voters. This blatant attempt to bully Americans out of their right to vote is pathetic. Our democracy doesn’t belong to anyone. https://t.co/HP9fIhTD0k”.
Torres has served as the representative for California’s 35th district since succeeding Gloria Negrete McLeod in 2015 and previously held positions in both the California State Assembly (2008-2013) and Senate (2013-2014). Born in Escuintla, Guatemala in 1965 and currently residing in Pomona at age 58, she holds a BA from National Labor College.
