Rep. Norma Torres, who represents California’s 35th district in the U.S. Congress, used her social media platform on July 15, 2025, to call attention to food and housing security issues. In a series of posts, she announced a Telephone Townhall aimed at discussing the impact of the “Big Beautiful Bill” on SNAP benefits and affordable housing.
In her first tweet on July 15, Torres stated: ” Let’s Talk Food & Housing Security
We’re calling for a Telephone Townhall on how the “Big Beautiful Bill” affects SNAP benefits and affordable housing in our communities.
Families deserve answers. Communities deserve support. No one should be left behind.”

Norma Torres has served in Congress since 2015 after succeeding Gloria Negrete McLeod. She previously held positions in both the California State Assembly from 2008 to 2013 and the California Senate from 2013 to 2014. Born in Escuintla, Guatemala, in 1965, Torres is now based in Pomona and holds a BA from National Labor College.
