Rep. Norma Torres, who represents California’s 35th district in the U.S. Congress, has recently used her social media platform to address a range of national and international issues, including presidential pardons and the housing crisis.
On December 4, 2025, Torres publicly criticized former President Donald Trump’s decision to pardon Juan Orlando Hernández. She wrote, “Today, I spoke out against Trump’s pardon of Juan Orlando Hernández, a warlord who fueled over 100,000 American deaths and sent 700,000 Hondurans running for their lives. This pardon is a betrayal of justice and of every family still living with the consequences of his brutality.”
The following day, on December 5, Torres posted another message expressing skepticism about recent political developments related to high-profile investigations and pardons: “I DON’T BELIEVE A WORD! They found a scapegoat to divert your attention from the #EpsteinFiles They are complicit in the pardons of the other 1500 insurrectionists!”
Later that same day, Torres addressed domestic policy concerns by highlighting her leadership among fellow lawmakers on housing affordability. She stated: “Today, I led 52 New Dems in urging President Trump to take real action on the housing crisis. Our letter lays out 8 commonsense steps the Administration can take immediately because declaring a ‘national housing emergency’ isn’t enough if families still can’t afford a home.”
Torres has served as a member of Congress since 2015 after succeeding Gloria Negrete McLeod. Before joining Congress, she was part of both the California State Assembly and Senate between 2008 and 2014. Born in Escuintla, Guatemala in 1965 and now residing in Pomona at age 58, Torres holds a Bachelor’s degree from National Labor College.
