U.S. Representative Norma Torres, who serves California’s 35th district, shared updates on her recent community engagement efforts and advocacy for education and historical awareness in a series of posts on August 7, 2025.
In one post from the afternoon, Torres highlighted her visit to the Ontario Hispanic Chamber of Commerce: “#TeamTorres stopped by the Ontario Hispanic Chamber of Commerce to speak with local business owners about immigration resources and how my office can support families with loved ones in detention. Grateful to connect and work for a stronger, informed #CA35. ¡Unidos somos más https://t.co/zjlVrCcNWW” (August 7, 2025).
Later that day, she commented on a local school renaming initiative: “O’Day Short Elementary was re-named thanks to a student, Cyrus, and a community committed to truth-telling and justice. Every student deserves to know their voice matters—and that their history belongs in the classroom. #CA35 #EducationMatters https://t.co/AmLaFwEcyx” (August 7, 2025).
In another post published minutes later, Torres emphasized the importance of confronting regional history: “We must learn and remember the history of discrimination and violence in the Inland Empire. Only by acknowledging the past can we build a more just and equitable future for all. https://t.co/nZ8wrufDIZ” (August 7, 2025).
Norma Torres has represented California’s 35th District in Congress since replacing Gloria Negrete McLeod in 2015. Before serving in Congress, she was a member of both the California State Assembly from 2008 to 2013 and the California Senate from 2013 to 2014. Born in Escuintla, Guatemala in 1965, Torres currently resides in Pomona at age 58. She holds a Bachelor’s degree from National Labor College.
