Rep. Norma Torres, a member of the U.S. Congress representing California’s 35th district, recently posted a series of tweets warning about potential increases in health insurance premiums for various demographic groups.
On July 30, 2025, Torres addressed the financial impact on individuals and families. She wrote, “A 45-year-old individual making $60,000? You could see a hike of $1,245 more a year in premiums. That’s money working families just don’t have.” In another tweet from the same day, she stated, “A family of four making $125,000? Expect your premiums to go up by more than $7,000 a year—for the same coverage.” Addressing older adults specifically, Torres added on July 30: “A 60-year-old couple making $82,000? Your premiums could nearly quadruple—jumping from an average of $6,970 to over $26,000 a year.”
Norma Torres has represented California’s 35th District in Congress since 2015 after succeeding Gloria Negrete McLeod. Before her tenure in Congress, she served in both the California State Assembly and Senate between 2008 and 2014. Born in Escuintla, Guatemala in 1965 and currently residing in Pomona at age 58, Torres holds a BA from National Labor College.
