Rep. Norma Torres, U.S. Congresswoman representing California’s 35th district since 2015, recently shared a series of updates on her official Twitter account highlighting local student achievements, community services, and upcoming events.
On January 23, 2026, Torres congratulated students advancing toward military service academies, stating: “Proud to congratulate these outstanding students who are taking the next step toward serving our country. It is an honor to support their applications to our nation’s military academies and to recognize their dedication, discipline, and leadership.”
Later that day, she promoted an event for constituents with travel needs: “Travel plans coming up? #TeamTorres is hosting a Passport Day to help you apply, renew, track your passport, and schedule agency appointments. RSVP at (909) 481-6474 or scan the QR code.” The event aims to assist residents in managing passport-related tasks efficiently.
In another post dated January 24, 2026, Torres addressed the approaching tax season by informing constituents about available resources: “Tax season is right around the corner. My office wants to make sure you know about the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program, which provides free tax preparation services for eligible individuals and families. We are here to help make tax season a little easier.”
Norma Torres has represented California’s 35th District in Congress since replacing Gloria Negrete McLeod in 2015. Prior to her congressional service, she was a member of both the California State Assembly from 2008 to 2013 and the California Senate from 2013 to 2014. Born in Escuintla, Guatemala in 1965 and currently residing in Pomona at age 58, Torres holds a BA from National Labor College.
