Rep. Norma Torres, U.S. Congresswoman representing California’s 35th district, has recently posted a series of statements on social media addressing tax assistance, American pluralism, and Social Security protections.

On March 8, 2026, Torres announced a local initiative to help constituents with their taxes: “Have you filed your taxes yet? #TeamTorres is hosting a FREE tax prep clinic through the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program at the Pomona Public Library. Volunteers from California State Polytechnic University, Pomona can help with 2025 and prior-year returns.”

Addressing issues of diversity and inclusion in the United States on March 9, she wrote: “Mr. Ogle, whether you like it or not, people of every religion, every background, and every identity belong in America. Pluralism is real, and it’s what makes us American.”

On March 10, Torres commented on recent concerns about Social Security data security: “This is a betrayal of American trust. Trump’s DOGE put Social Security data and benefits at risk. That’s exactly why I introduced the Repairing Social Security After Trump and DOGE Act last year, to protect seniors, people with disabilities, and every American who relies on SSA.”

Torres has represented California’s 35th District in Congress since 2015 after succeeding Gloria Negrete McLeod. Before her tenure in Congress, she served in the California State Assembly from 2008 to 2013 and in the California Senate from 2013 to 2014. Born in Escuintla, Guatemala in 1965 and now residing in Pomona, Torres holds a BA from National Labor College.
