Rep. Norma Torres, who represents California’s 35th district in the U.S. Congress, posted a series of critical statements on her X (formerly Twitter) account on December 8 and 9, 2025. Her posts addressed issues ranging from the #EpsteinFiles to U.S. and Central American political controversies.
On December 8, Torres questioned whether wealthy individuals implicated in the Jeffrey Epstein case would face consequences or receive special treatment. She wrote: “.what about those rich friends with “benefits” on the #EpsteinFiles? Do they get a pardon so they may receive communion?”
The following day, Torres criticized former Honduran President Juan Orlando Hernández and former U.S. President Donald Trump’s approach to drug trafficking convictions. On December 9, she stated: “.@JuanOrlandoH ran a criminal enterprise from the presidency and helped flood our communities with cocaine. Calling for his arrest isn’t political, it’s justice, no matter how many favors @realDonaldTrump gives to convicted drug traffickers.
I stand with the people of Honduras”
Later that same day, Torres commented on economic struggles faced by American families and criticized Trump’s response to their concerns about affordability: “When families say they can’t afford groceries, @realDonaldTrump tells them: “Don’t be dramatic.”
This is what happens when a billionaire thinks working people should just suffer in silence. Americans deserve a president who actually understands their struggle, not mocks it.”
Torres has represented California’s 35th District since 2015 after serving in both the California State Assembly and Senate.[source] Born in Escuintla, Guatemala in 1965 and now residing in Pomona,[source] she holds a BA from National Labor College.[source] Her public statements often focus on social justice issues affecting both domestic and international communities.
