Rep. Norma Torres, who has been serving in the U.S. Congress representing California’s 35th district since 2015, recently took to social media to address several pressing issues. Her posts on June 4, 2025, covered topics ranging from aviation safety to healthcare policy and immigration.
On June 4, Rep. Torres announced her participation in a session questioning the Acting FAA Administrator regarding concerns over “the rise in near-miss incidents, air traffic control staffing shortages, and what it means for airport safety.” She urged viewers to watch live as she sought accountability on these matters.
Later that day, Torres criticized a bill proposed by House Republicans. She described it as a “tax-and-spending” bill that “slashes health care, gives away billions to the ultra-wealthy, and still manages to drive up the national debt.” According to her post, this approach does not represent fiscal responsibility but rather “cruelty disguised as policy.”
In another post from June 4, Rep. Torres expressed relief that a young girl could remain in the country while receiving medical treatment. However, she lamented the circumstances under which “her family was nearly deported while she battled a deadly illness,” calling it a moral failure and advocating for an immigration system that prioritizes humanity.
Norma Torres was born in Escuintla, Guatemala in 1965 and moved to Pomona where she currently resides. Before joining Congress in 2015 after replacing Gloria Negrete McLeod, she served in both the California State Assembly and Senate.
