Rep. Norma Torres, currently serving in the U.S. Congress representing California’s 35th district, has shared her views and activities through a series of tweets over the past few days.
On July 3, 2025, Rep. Torres expressed her opposition to a legislative proposal she referred to as the “Big Ugly Bill.” She stated, “I voted NO on the ‘Big Ugly Bill’ because it guts Medicaid, slashes food assistance, and cuts support for seniors, veterans, and students.” She criticized Republicans for their decision to reduce essential programs while providing substantial tax breaks to billionaires.
The following day, July 4th, Rep. Torres reflected on American values in light of Independence Day celebrations. She tweeted: ” This Fourth of July, we reflect on the values that define us—freedom, dignity, and a government of, by, and for the people.” She reaffirmed her commitment to upholding these ideals for families in California’s 35th district.
On July 5th, Rep. Torres shared about an event hosted by #TeamTorres at the Pomona Certified Farmers Market. The tweet detailed: “#TeamTorres hosted weekend office hours at the Pomona Certified Farmers Market…” During this event, they opened federal casework and provided information about office services while engaging with local vendors.
Norma Torres has been representing California’s 35th District since replacing Gloria Negrete McLeod in 2015. Prior to this role in Congress since 2015; she served in both the California State Assembly from 2008-2013 and Senate from 2013-2014.
