U.S. Representative Norma Torres, who serves California’s 35th district, posted a series of statements on July 17, 2025, addressing federal education funding and infrastructure programs.
In a tweet published at 18:02 UTC, Torres wrote: “I led a letter—joined by every California Democrat in Congress—demanding the Trump admin release the $928M in education funding owed to CA. With school starting, districts are laying off staff & cutting programs. Our students can’t afford this chaos.”
Later that day at 20:16 UTC, Torres shared another post containing only a link: “https://t.co/XSGF7smt1b”.
At 22:25 UTC, she announced progress on an infrastructure initiative: “My amendment to restore $10 million for the Regional Infrastructure Accelerator program PASSED THUD Appropriations markup! RIA helps local governments get shovel-ready projects off the ground — creating jobs and delivering real results.”
Norma Torres has represented California’s 35th district in Congress since 2015 after replacing Gloria Negrete McLeod. She previously served in both the California State Assembly and Senate between 2008 and 2014. Born in Escuintla, Guatemala in 1965, Torres currently resides in Pomona and holds a BA from National Labor College.
