California football general manager Ron Rivera is set to participate in a panel discussion about the evolving landscape of college athletics. The event, organized by the Women’s Coaching Alliance, will take place on August 6 in San Mateo.
Rivera, who joined California’s team as general manager in March following a notable career as both player and coach, will be accompanied by Andrew Luck, Stanford’s new general manager. The discussion is scheduled for 5 p.m.
“I am thrilled to take part in this unique event with Andrew Luck and Mina Kimes to support the Women’s Coaching Alliance,” Rivera expressed. “From youth leagues to the pros, the Women’s Coaching Alliance’s mission of identifying and supporting women in coaching is a noble one, and I’m honored to be included in what should be a lively and entertaining conversation.”
Tickets for the event are available for purchase, with all proceeds benefiting the Women’s Coaching Alliance. This Bay Area non-profit focuses on developing female leaders through youth sports coaching.
“This isn’t just a football conversation—it’s a leadership conversation,” stated Pam Baker, founder of the Women’s Coaching Alliance. “Both Andrew and Ron understand the importance of inclusive, forward-thinking leadership, and we’re thrilled to host this important dialogue with two champions of equity and innovation in sports.”
Moderated by ESPN reporter Mina Kimes, the panel will delve into topics such as changes from the NCAA House Settlement, NIL (Name, Image and Likeness), transfer portal developments, and conference realignment—all factors influencing college sports programs’ business models and cultures for both genders.
Rivera has an impressive background as an All-American linebacker at Cal before his nine-year NFL tenure with the Chicago Bears. His coaching career includes leading roles with teams like Carolina Panthers and Washington Commanders. He was twice named NFL Coach of the Year during his time with the Panthers.
