Mark Sigl, a 63-year-old resident of Antelope, has entered a guilty plea for the attempted coercion and enticement of a minor to engage in sexual activity. The announcement was made by Acting U.S. Attorney Michele Beckwith.
Court documents reveal that in March 2024, Sigl communicated with an individual he believed to be the father of a 10-year-old girl. This person was actually an undercover officer. During their interactions, Sigl expressed his intention to perform sexual acts on the child and arranged to meet at a designated location for this purpose. Upon arriving at the site, Sigl was apprehended by law enforcement officers who found several sex-related items in his vehicle.
The investigation into this case was conducted by the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office along with the Sacramento Valley High Tech Crimes Taskforce. Assistant U.S. Attorney Zulkar Khan is handling the prosecution.
Sigl’s sentencing is scheduled for October 7, 2025, before U.S. District Judge John A. Mendez. He faces a maximum penalty of life imprisonment and a $250,000 fine. However, the actual sentence will be determined based on statutory factors and Federal Sentencing Guidelines.
This case is part of Project Safe Childhood, an initiative started in May 2006 by the Department of Justice to combat child sexual exploitation and abuse. Led by United States Attorneys’ Offices and the Criminal Division’s Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section, Project Safe Childhood uses federal, state, and local resources to locate offenders and rescue victims of child exploitation.
