Raymond James Cornett, a 53-year-old Sacramento resident, has pleaded guilty to the sexual exploitation of a child. The announcement was made by United States Attorney Eric Grant.
Court documents show that Cornett requested and received videos and images from a woman in Canada involving two minor victims, ages six and seven, engaged in sexually explicit conduct. Cornett also admitted to soliciting similar material involving two other minors.
The investigation involved the Sacramento Police Department, Homeland Security Investigations, and the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force. Assistant U.S. Attorney Roger Yang is handling the prosecution. Authorities in Canada prosecuted the woman who sent Cornett the illicit material.
Cornett will be sentenced by U.S. District Judge William B. Shubb on December 8, 2025. He faces up to 30 years in prison and a $250,000 fine. The court will determine his sentence after considering statutory factors and federal sentencing guidelines.
This case is part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative started by the Department of Justice in May 2006 to address child sexual exploitation and abuse. Project Safe Childhood brings together federal, state, and local resources to pursue offenders and assist victims.
