California Golden Bears quarterback Jaron-Keawe Sagapolutele has received further national recognition following his performance in the team’s 38-35 win over No. 21 SMU during Week 14. Sagapolutele was named to the Davey O’Brien Great 8 and earned a Manning Award Star of the Week selection, marking the second time in three games he has collected both honors.
In the game against SMU, Sagapolutele completed 31 of 40 passes for a career-high 330 yards and four touchdowns, with no interceptions. Both his passing yardage and touchdown total set new personal bests.
Sagapolutele’s start to his collegiate career includes 12 consecutive games with at least 200 passing yards. He is the only Power 4 player and just the second FBS player to achieve at least 12 straight games of this kind at the beginning of a college career. The only other player to accomplish this was Houston’s David Piland, who had a streak of 14 such games between the 2010 and 2012 seasons.
For the season, Sagapolutele has completed 288 out of 453 pass attempts for a total of 3,117 yards and thrown for 17 touchdowns. He currently leads the ACC in completions and ranks fifth nationally in that category. In terms of passing yards, he is third in the ACC and fifteenth nationally. His current yardage also places him sixth on California’s all-time single-season list.
“College football fans can follow the Manning Award on X (@ManningAward) to vote for Sagapolutele for the Manning Award Quarterback of the Week. Voting has opened and will continue through Wednesday at 7 a.m. PT.”
