Gregory Smith, also known as “OG Nutty” and “GNutty,” has been sentenced to 10 years in federal prison for distributing methamphetamine. U.S. District Judge Beth Labson Freeman delivered the sentence.
Smith, aged 54 and formerly a resident of Salinas, faced initial charges on November 1, 2021. These were part of a broader crackdown on illegal firearms that led to multiple defendants being charged in South Bay counties. He was later charged with a single count on September 8, 2022.
On April 9, 2024, Smith admitted guilt to distributing methamphetamine under violation of sections 21 U.S.C. § 841(a)(1) and (b)(1)(C). Court documents reveal that he sold approximately 41.8 grams of methamphetamine and a ghost gun in Salinas on February 10, 2021, for $1,425. A week later, he sold about another 28 grams to the same individual.
The government argued in its sentencing memorandum that Smith posed a community danger due to his estimated record of 54 parole violations.
In addition to his prison sentence, Judge Freeman imposed a three-year supervised release period and ordered Smith to pay a $100 special assessment fee. He was taken into custody immediately after sentencing.
United States Attorney Craig H. Missakian and ATF Acting Special Agent Robert Topper announced the outcome.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Neal C. Hong led the prosecution with assistance from Sahib Kaur. The case stemmed from an investigation by the ATF alongside local law enforcement agencies including the Monterey County Sheriff’s Office, California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation’s Investigative Unit, Salinas Police Department, and California Highway Patrol.
