The San José Fire Department announced on May 14 that it will hold its seventh annual Women’s+ Boot Camp on Saturday, May 16, from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the San José Fire Training Center.
The event is designed for individuals interested in exploring a career in the fire service and aims to provide hands-on experience and insight into firefighting. The boot camp features a challenging circuit workout, live firefighting demonstrations, and an interactive question-and-answer session with women members of the department.
This year’s event is free and open to up to 120 participants ages 16 and older, including non-binary, gender non-conforming, and trans women. Registration for the camp filled quickly after opening on April 13. A video recap of last year’s boot camp is available online for those interested in learning more about the program.
Media are invited to attend between 9:30 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. for b-roll opportunities during workouts as well as interviews with staff involved in organizing the boot camp. Media representatives are asked to RSVP with Jake Pisani, Public Information Manager at SJFD, by Friday, May 15 at 5 p.m.
