The San Jose Sharks were awarded the No. 2 overall selection in the 2026 National Hockey League Draft following the league’s draft lottery broadcast on May 6. The announcement gives the team another opportunity to add a top prospect to its roster.

The Sharks have now secured a top-two pick for three consecutive years, which is notable for building their young core of players. This follows previous high selections, including Macklin Celebrini with the first overall pick in 2024 and Michael Misa with the second overall pick in 2025.

General Manager Mike Grier said after the lottery, “This is a good day for the organization. To have the opportunity to add another very talented player to our young core is very exciting.”

The team entered this year’s lottery with the ninth-best odds before moving up into the No. 2 position, marking four straight years of earning a top-four draft spot. The franchise becomes just the fifth NHL team to hold a top-two pick three years running.

The first round of the draft will take place June 26 at KeyBank Center in Buffalo and will be broadcast live on ESPN. Fans can attend a free viewing party at SAP Center at San Jose on June 26, where they can watch live coverage and celebrate together as new talent joins their team.
