The Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office held a ceremony to welcome two new employees and announce the promotion of twelve staff members, including several appointments to executive leadership positions.

Sheriff Bill Brown addressed those in attendance, stating, “Our office has a proud tradition of Keeping the Peace Since 1850. Whether you are beginning your career with our agency or stepping into a new leadership role, our expectations are clear: treat every person fairly, courteously, and professionally—every time.”

Frank “Frankie” Lentini joined as Sheriff’s Utility Worker and Leon “Fabian” Arias as Financial Office Professional.

Among the promoted were three key additions to the executive team. Undersheriff Brad Welch brings 25 years of experience within the department across various roles such as custody, patrol, investigations, and command leadership. He holds both bachelor’s and master’s degrees and is a past recipient of the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office Medal of Valor.

Chief Deputy Kevin Huddle has served in patrol, investigations, field training, and executive command assignments. He is a POST Command College graduate with a master’s degree in law enforcement leadership.

Custody Chief Deputy Ryan Sullivan earned his master’s degree in public administration from California State University, Northridge. He began his career in custody operations and has overseen multiple jail operations and support divisions.

“These promotions reflect the caliber of our people and the rigor of the process,” said Sheriff Brown. “Competition is always tough, and those who emerge successfully have earned the confidence of this organization.”

Other promotions included John Maxwell (Sheriff’s Commander), Cassandra Marking (Custody Commander), Selim Celmeta (Custody Commander), Daniel Nelson Jr. (Sheriff’s Lieutenant), Justin Haney (Custody Lieutenant), Luis Espinosa (Custody Lieutenant), Jose Velazquez (Custody Sergeant), Jose Alejo (Custody Sergeant), and Nanette Tobin (Administrative Office Professional Senior).

Sheriff Brown highlighted that principles such as public service, accountability, and professionalism remain central to these transitions. He urged newly promoted personnel to embody values associated with SHERIFF: Service, Honor, Ethics, Respect, Integrity, Fairness, and Faithfulness.

The event concluded with an oath of office for sworn members followed by a reception for attendees.
