The Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office has opened applications for its upcoming Community Academy, which aims to provide local residents with an inside look at law enforcement operations in the county.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, the program will cover a variety of topics through hands-on learning. Areas of focus include the history of law enforcement, criminal law, patrol tactics, de-escalation communication, and forensic evidence collection.
“This program is designed for community members who want to learn more about the Sheriff’s Office and those considering a future in law enforcement. It’s a unique chance to see firsthand the work that goes into serving and protecting our communities,” the department stated.
The Community Academy is scheduled to begin on Monday, March 2, 2026. Classes will take place every Monday evening until May 4, 2026. Most sessions will be held at the Lompoc Substation, with some classes planned in Santa Barbara and Santa Maria. The program will conclude with a graduation barbecue and luncheon on Saturday, May 9, 2026.
