The Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office has opened applications for its upcoming Community Academy, which offers residents an inside look at local law enforcement operations.

The program covers a variety of topics such as the history of law enforcement, criminal law, patrol tactics, and de-escalation communication. Participants will also have hands-on learning opportunities in firearms instruction and forensic evidence collection.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, “This program is designed for community members who want to learn more about the Sheriff’s Office and those considering a future in law enforcement. It’s a unique chance to see firsthand the work that goes into serving and protecting our communities.”

The Community Academy will begin on Thursday, October 2, 2025, with classes held every Thursday evening until December 4. The program concludes with a graduation event on Saturday, December 6. Space is limited and interested participants must be at least 18 years old. Applications are due by Friday, September 19, 2025.
