Stanford University hosted its final home meet of the regular season on May 1, as the track and field team competed in the 30th edition of the Payton Jordan Invitational at Cobb Track & Angell Field.

The event marked an important milestone for Stanford athletes, offering a last opportunity to compete on their home turf before postseason championships. Several members of the team delivered strong performances across various events.

Abbey Moody secured first place in the women’s javelin with a season-best throw of 43.60 meters. Brandy Atuatasi won the women’s discus event with a mark of 53.40 meters in her last meet at Cobb Track & Angell Field. Julia Lemmon finished third in discus and was runner-up in shot put, while Emma Sralla took fourth place in discus.

Tess Stapleton won the women’s 400-meter hurdles with a time of 57.62 seconds, narrowly missing a meet record set by Kori Carter in 2012 by two-hundredths of a second. Riley Stewart and Clemmie Lilley each led their sections to win races in the women’s 800 meters, while Hanne Thomsen posted her best freshman performance by winning section two of the women’s 5000 meters.

In sprint events, Sage Hinton led Stanford sprinters to top-four finishes in both the women’s 200- and 400-meter dashes with personal season bests. On the men’s side, Ryce Reynolds recorded his best times this year by placing third in the men’s 200 meters and second in the men’s 400 meters; Zachary Ryan finished just behind him for third place.

The meet also saw new records: Nairobi Smith from California set a new women’s Payton Jordan Invitational record for the 200 meters at 23.40 seconds, while Matthew Staples from UC Santa Barbara established a new men’s record with his time of 20.90 seconds.

With this home meet completed, Stanford will next compete at the ACC Championships scheduled for May 14-16.
