Democratic California Rep. Ro Khanna is in total support of small businesses but insists they should not be paying their employees low salaries.

“Well, they shouldn’t be (succeeding) by paying people low wages,” Khanna told Abby Phillip during his interview with her on CNN’s Inside Politics program. “I love small businesses, I’m all for it, but I don’t want small businesses that are underpaying employees. It’s fair for people to be making what they’re producing. I think $15 is very reasonable in this country.”

If the minimum wage kept pace with productivity growth since 1968 it would be over $24 an hour in 2020, an article published last year in commondreams.org said.

“We don’t want low-wage businesses,” Khanna said. “Most successful small businesses can pay a fair wage. If you look at the minimum wage it increased with worker productivity until 1968 and that relationship was severed. If workers were actually getting paid for the value they were creating it would be up to $23.”

President Biden and other Democrats are pushing for the $15 per hour wage hike, which based on a study by the Congressional Budget Office would cost 1.4 million jobs over four years,The Epoch Times reported.
