Former President Donald Trump is set to deliver his first public speech since he stepped down as president at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) on Sunday, Feb. 28. Two Republicans have contrasting views if Trump should speak at CPAC.

House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) and House Republican Conference Chair Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.) provided two different responses when asked if Trump should be given this platform.

“Yes, he should,” McCarthy said, a report from The Epoch Times stated.

“That’s up to CPAC,” Cheney commented. “I don’t believe that he should be playing a role in the future of the party or the country.”

Earlier on, McCarthy had already stated that “impeaching the President with just 12 days left will only divide our country more.”  But this was not heeded by some Republicans including Cheney.

She was one of the small group of Republicans who voted for Trump's impeachment.

Following her support for impeaching Trump for inciting an insurrection at the Capitol on Jan. 6, Cheney has faced blowback from county-level Republican parties and was censured by Wyoming Republicans.

When asked about Cheney's actions, Donald Trump Jr. said that “it’s time to have a change at the top. It’s time to have people that are going to start representing the people, not their own agendas, not their own nonsense, but their constituency.”
