Calif. State Sen. Brian Jones (R-38th District) calls out the "low-cost" California bullet train program that Democratic politicians entered into, as a debt building machine.

"Consultants cost hundreds of millions of dollars, a shorter track despite a delayed timeline & at least $67 billion over budget. You’d think that Sacramento Dems would be more responsible with taxpayer funds & stop funding the high-speed rail," Jones wrote on Twitter.

Originally awarded to a Spanish company named Dragados who made the lowest bid in 2014, the contract was meant to save the state of California more than $300 million in various cost savings methods such as modifying the design the Rail Authority proposed to regulators.

By 2021, these cost-saving designs, however, were put on the sidelines and in turn, cost the state of California a staggering $800 million in overruns just on the 65-mile section of Kings County alone.

The Los Angeles Times quoted experts as saying this failed contract "marks yet another black eye for the project that has been beset by cost overruns and delays that now threaten it."

Congresswoman Michelle Steel (R-Seal Beach) is promising the bill she is pushing will put a stop to the project, The Orange County Register reported.

"This is an embarrassing waste of taxpayer dollars. California has had over a decade to get this project on track and has failed. My bill ensures this poorly run, money-pit project will not receive any more federal funding," Steel said.
