California Attorney General Rob Bonta, along with the San Diego Human Trafficking Task Force, announced the results of Operation Better Pathways, a multi-jurisdictional operation aimed at combating human trafficking and sexual exploitation. The operation led to the arrest of 46 individuals for alleged human trafficking, sexual exploitation, and other offenses, with 20 individuals, including seven children, being offered support services.
Attorney General Rob Bonta emphasized the importance of the operation, stating, “Human trafficking and sexual exploitation destroy lives. Through Operation Better Pathways, we’re fighting to hold perpetrators accountable and help survivors with support and services.” He commended the collaboration of partners in the San Diego Human Trafficking Task Force, highlighting the tangible results achieved in the fight against human trafficking.
U.S. Attorney Tara McGrath expressed dedication to holding traffickers accountable and seeking justice for victims, stating, “Together, we are making San Diego’s community safer while sending a clear message to those who try to exploit the vulnerable: Not in our city.”
Acting Special Agent in Charge for Homeland San Diego, Christepher Davis, highlighted the importance of collective efforts in combating human trafficking, stating, “When law enforcement agencies collectively work together during operations like Operation Better Pathways, we are able to cast a wider net focusing on rescuing victims and apprehending perpetrators.”
San Diego Chief of Police David Nisleit emphasized the ongoing vigilance required in the fight against human trafficking, stating, “Protecting our community from sexual predators requires the continued cooperation and commitment from the San Diego Human Trafficking Task Force. Our work is just beginning.”
San Diego Mayor Todd Gloria reiterated the commitment to stopping predators targeting vulnerable individuals, stating, “The results of Operation Better Pathways are further proof that SDPD and its partners in the San Diego Human Trafficking Task Force are committed to protecting San Diegans from the dangers of human trafficking.”
Operation Better Pathways involved targeted surveillance of areas known for sexual exploitation in San Diego and National City, leading to arrests ranging from human trafficking of minors to assault with a deadly weapon. The operation took place over multiple days, with support services provided to potential victims and survivors by San Diego County Child Welfare Services and adult and juvenile support service advocates.
