UC Davis is celebrating the Year of the Eggheads, honoring the iconic sculptures on campus created by the late Robert Arneson. The Egghead Series, consisting of seven sculptures, has become a significant part of the university's culture and tradition.

Chancellor Gary S. May expressed his acceptance of the humorous nature of the Eggheads, stating, "I’m OK with that." The sculptures have evolved into popular landmarks where students capture memorable moments during their college experience, including graduation and finals week rituals.

The Year of the Eggheads marks the 30th anniversary of the installation of these unique sculptures on campus. Chancellor May highlighted the importance of the Eggheads in representing UC Davis' innovative and unconventional spirit, emphasizing the university's commitment to excellence in teaching, research, and public service.

In addition to celebrating the Eggheads, UC Davis showcases its dedication to the arts through institutions like the Gorman Museum of Native American Art and the Manetti Shrem Museum. The artistic vibrancy on campus is evident through exhibitions featuring works by UC Davis professors and alumni.

Chancellor May extended an invitation to the community to explore the Eggheads and the artistic offerings on campus during the upcoming Picnic Day on April 20. The event will feature open houses at various art spaces, including the opportunity to purchase Egghead-themed merchandise from the UC Davis Campus Store and Downtown Store.

As the celebration continues throughout the year, more Eggheads-related events and products will be announced, encouraging individuals to engage with the arts at UC Davis. Chancellor May, along with LeShelle, encourages everyone to partake in the festivities and enjoy the university's proud traditions on Picnic Day.
