California Attorney General Rob Bonta has praised the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of California's ruling in support of gender-affirming care for transgender individuals. The court's decision upheld Senate Bill 107 (SB 107), also known as California's Transgender Sanctuary State Law, which provides legal protections for families seeking gender-affirming care in the state.

In response to the court's order granting the California Department of Justice's motion to dismiss a complaint challenging SB 107, Attorney General Bonta stated, "No one should ever be marginalized for seeking the care they need." He emphasized the importance of the ruling for transgender children and their families, particularly in the face of increasing challenges to LGBTQ+ rights nationwide.

The court's decision to dismiss the lawsuit was based on the plaintiff's failure to demonstrate any injury resulting from SB 107 and a lack of evidence showing that the law imposed any burdens on them. Attorney General Bonta reaffirmed his commitment to defending SB 107 to ensure that transgender and gender-nonconforming individuals have access to essential care that promotes their well-being.

Attorney General Bonta's dedication to protecting healthcare rights extends beyond SB 107. He has been actively involved in various legal efforts to support transgender rights and access to gender-affirming care. From filing amicus briefs in support of transgender veterans' access to care to opposing laws that restrict transgender youths' access to vital healthcare services, Attorney General Bonta has consistently advocated for equality and inclusivity in healthcare.

As the legal landscape around LGBTQ+ rights continues to evolve, Attorney General Bonta remains steadfast in his commitment to defending the rights and well-being of all individuals, regardless of their gender identity.

The court's decision in support of SB 107 reflects a significant milestone in the ongoing fight for equality and inclusivity in healthcare for transgender individuals in California and beyond.
