SACRAMENTO – Governor Gavin Newsom announced today that California has secured a Fire Management Assistance Grant (FMAG) from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to support efforts in combating the Park Fire in Butte County.

The fast-moving Park Fire near Chico has burned over 45,000 acres and prompted the evacuation of more than 3,500 residents. Real-time information, including road closures and evacuation maps, is available at fire.ca.gov.

The FMAG, provided through the President’s Disaster Relief Fund on a cost-share basis, will help local, state, and tribal agencies respond to the fire by offering 75-percent reimbursement for eligible fire suppression costs. The program is administered by the California Governor’s Office of Emergency Services (Cal OES) and provides swift financial assistance to communities affected by fires.

Earlier this wildfire season, California also secured FMAGs for the Thompson, French, and Hawarden fires that collectively burned nearly 5,000 acres.
