California created 21,100 new jobs in July, nearly one out of every five jobs added nationwide last month. The state also saw the highest number of fast food jobs in its history.
Governor Gavin Newsom announced that California's job expansion has continued into its 51st month. "Our steady, consistent job growth in recent months highlights the strength of California’s economy – still the 5th largest in the entire world. Just this year, the state has created 126,500 jobs – solid growth by any measure," said Newsom.
With July’s data, California has now created 284,400 new jobs within the past 12 months, marking a 1.6 percent increase. The state's unemployment rate remained steady at 5.2 percent. Four of the state’s eleven industry sectors gained jobs last month.
California is home to more Fortune 500 companies than any other state and recorded an all-time high travel spending of $150.4 billion. Additionally, California hosts 35 of the world's top 50 AI companies and holds a significant share of technology patents and conference papers.
The state boasts one of the most equitable tax systems in the country and leads in several economic categories: #1 for new business starts, access to venture capital funding, manufacturing, high-tech industries, and agriculture.
