Governor Gavin Newsom and First Partner Jennifer Siebel Newsom have expressed their condolences following the death of Ethel Kennedy. In a statement, they acknowledged her significant contributions to social justice and civil rights globally.

"California joins the nation in mourning the passing of Ethel Kennedy, beloved family matriarch and powerful force for social justice and civil rights around the world," said Governor Newsom and First Partner Siebel Newsom.

They highlighted Kennedy's resilience after becoming a widow with 11 children, noting her role as a "pillar of strength" for her family and an inspiration nationwide. Her advocacy extended beyond her personal challenges, influencing change both internationally and within California. She was noted for advancing farmworkers' rights and supporting César Chávez's civil rights leadership.

"Ethel Kennedy’s big-hearted leadership, service, and bravery is an inspiration to all of us," they stated. The Newsoms offered their sympathies to the Kennedy family during this period of mourning.
