California Attorney General Rob Bonta announced that the California Department of Justice (DOJ) is conducting an investigation into an officer-involved shooting in Mammoth Lakes, California. This action follows Assembly Bill 1506 (AB 1506), which mandates such investigations. The incident occurred on March 4, 2025, around noon and involved officers from the Mammoth Lakes Police Department. It resulted in the death of one individual.
The DOJ’s California Police Shooting Investigation Team began its inquiry after being notified by local authorities. Once their investigation is complete, it will be forwarded to the DOJ's Special Prosecutions Section within the Criminal Law Division for independent review.
