Governor Gavin Newsom of California has publicly criticized a recent executive order issued by President Trump, which he believes undermines state-level climate and clean energy efforts. In a statement, Newsom expressed strong disapproval, stating, "This is the world the Trump Administration wants your kids to live in. California’s efforts to cut harmful pollution won’t be derailed by a glorified press release masquerading as an executive order."
Under Governor Newsom's leadership, California has continued to make strides in clean energy. The state achieved a significant milestone last year by running on 100% clean electricity for a total of 45 days. Furthermore, since Newsom took office, there has been a substantial increase in battery storage capacity, which has risen to over 13,000 megawatts, marking an increase of over 1,600%.
Additionally, the state's efforts in reducing pollution have seen optimistic results. Greenhouse gas emissions in California have decreased by 20% since the year 2000, while the state’s GDP has grown by 78% over the same period. Governor Newsom's administration emphasizes that economic growth does not have to come at the expense of environmental health.
