Former California women’s soccer goalkeeper Teagan Wy has signed her first professional contract with Gotham FC, the current National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) champions. The club announced on Friday that Wy is contracted through the 2028 season and will join the team for preseason training in Spain as they prepare for the inaugural FIFA Women’s Champions Cup.
“We are incredibly proud of Teagan for achieving her lifelong goal of becoming a professional in the best soccer league in the world,” Cal head coach Neil McGuire said. “She has worked tirelessly on her craft, and no one deserves this more. She is a truly exceptional talent and world class person.”
Wy was a starter for three years at California, earning two all-conference selections and appearing in 53 matches. Over her collegiate career, she recorded 4,415 minutes played, made 212 saves, and achieved 14 shutouts. In her senior year, Wy posted eight wins and eight shutouts, along with a personal best goals-against average of 1.11 and 81 saves—second most in the ACC. She also received four ACC Defender of the Week awards last season, more than any athlete in over 15 years.
Internationally, Wy has represented the United States at various youth levels over six years, beginning with U14 teams. She served as starting goalkeeper for Team USA at the 2024 U20 FIFA World Cup, helping secure a bronze medal with key performances such as a decisive penalty kick save to send the team into the semifinals. In January 2025, she was invited to train with the senior national team at the U.S. Futures Camp.
California has produced several professional goalkeepers in recent years. Wy follows Angelina Andersen—drafted in 2023—who made 22 starts for Angel FC this season; Emily Boyd—drafted by Chicago Red Stars in 2018—who had a six-year career; and Emily Kruger, who played overseas before joining Portland Thorns.
With this move, Wy joins Andersen and former teammates Paige Metayer, Sydney Collins, and Karlie Lema among California alumnae currently active on NWSL rosters.
