Tyler Shimizu earns spot on CSC Academic All-America team again

Recent California men’s gymnastics graduate Tyler Shimizu has been recognized as a member of the College Sports Communicators Academic All-America At-Large Team for the second consecutive year. This announcement was made on Wednesday.

Last season, Shimizu was named a Second Team Academic All-American. He concluded his time with the Golden Bears by receiving third team honors as a senior.

In addition to his academic achievements, Shimizu showed exceptional performance in gymnastics this year. He qualified for the NCAA Championship Finals as an all-arounder for the third consecutive season. At the NCAA Championships Qualifier, he scored 78.199 and completed his collegiate career with a final score of 78.198.

Eligibility for CSC academic recognition in men’s gymnastics requires that a student-athlete be at least a sophomore academically and athletically, maintain at least a 3.50 cumulative GPA, and rank in the top 75 in an event within his division according to Road to Nationals rankings.
